History of Diaspora
DIASPORA was created by Rudy Rupak, the co-founder of PlanetHospital.com. PlanetHospital.com was the world’s first Medical Tourism company, established in 2002. When Rudy started PlanetHospital, it was because there was a real need for affordable quality medical care and for care that was not easily available in one’s home country.
In 2005, Rudy started to explore ways of bringing arbitrage to the insurance world. Rudy met with several of the major insurers with this idea, but many did not understand it. After spending four years in a futile attempts to partner with a major health care provider with this initiative, and after serving over 2000+ patients around the world with their desperate medical needs – many who could not afford their care in the US – Rudy declared publicly that he would do something to make healthcare affordable by Dec 31, 2010. Diaspora was a result of this idea.
Diaspora is not an insurance company. Diaspora merely invented an insurance product in conjunction with another insurer and a hospital group. Diaspora markets its own invention, but the actual insurance services are provided by CRUM & FORSTER, an A Rated Insurance group with its headquarters in Canada.
